What is the M4 file?
The M4 file extension can be associated with several types of files. Most often, however, a file with such an extension is associated with the Macro Processor Library format. M4 files are supported by Linux, Mac OS, Windows operating systems. The M4 file is one of the Developer Files files, just like 1205 of the other files found in our file information database.
A program that can open the M4 file is e.g. TextMate. This software was released by MacroMates Ltd.. However, you can also use other applications, e.g. Text editor, m4, Unix, GLPK.

How to open a .M4 file?
If you have problems opening the file M4, then in most cases the problem is only the lack of the proper application installed. Select one of the programs from the list and install it on your device. The operating system should automatically associate the M4 file format with the installed program. If not, right click on your M4 file and select from the menu "Open with" . Then select the installed program and confirm the operation. Now all M4 files should automatically open with the selected program.
